Linear Sphere’s second album Manvantara to be released 7th July 2012
From the impact and cult success of the 2004 debut album Reality Dysfunction by Linear Sphere, comes the long awaited second album Manvantara, due for release on July 7th 2012. Recorded and produced by Martin Goulding, mixed by Martin and John Papas at Hardbeat Studio in Wembley, North-West London and mastered by renowned engineer Alan Douches in NYC, and with special guest and top British actor Paul Darrow (Blake 7) narrating on the third track Cycle of Ages. Guitar World “Last Licks” Video Lesson on Rapid-Fire Rock Licks by Martin Goulding
For the July 2012 edition of Guitar World magazine which features Slash on the front cover, I put together my back cover column “Last Licks” based around some old school rapid-fire rock repetition licks in the style of some of the greats of the 1980′s era such as Eddie Van Halen, Randy Rhoads, George Lynch, Joe Satriani and Steve Vai.

Guitar World “Last Licks” Video Lesson on Bending Repetition licks by Martin Goulding
For the May 2012 edition of Guitar World magazine which features the legendary Joe Walsh on the front cover, I put together my back cover column “Last Licks” based around some old school bending and repetition licks. These are the well-known generic cliches of the authentic classic 1970′s rock guitar era, well used by players like Jimmy Page, Alvin Lee, Ted Nugent and Ace Frehley all the way through to Eddie Van Halen, Randy Rhoads and George Lynch.
For the video i thought it would be a great opportunity to hear and compare both vintage and modern approaches for each example, with a medium gain and vintage type fast/shallow vibrato followed by a more hot-rodded 80′s approach with full saturation and a wide/slow vibrato style, hit hard with a sliced semi harmonic pick stroke! For the audio I used an Axe FX II set up with Marshall Plexi Treble type sound……
