This riff demonstrates the multi part approach used by Cynic. Both parts require strict alternate picking, and will be a good test of tonal consistency while picking. Use palm mute to add definition to the lower notes wherever indicated and pick from the wrist keeping the forearm totally relaxed. A firm hold on the pick will help improve accuracy. For the octaves, remember to mute unwanted strings with the fretting hand index finger.
