This next riff is a single line in ¾ time, which leads to a half time, old school thrash inspired riff which uses downstrokes with a neat hammer-on and pull-off fill at the end. Watch the fretting hand index finger muting the string above the one being played on this riff so as to get the note separation clean.
Downstrokes can be used, as well as inside, or outside the string alternate picking so try experimenting. The fourth bar, on beat 2, will require you to lean the fourth finger in a barring motion to get the adjacent notes clean.
