Yngwie Malmsteen Special Feature by Martin Goulding

Sunday, December 8th, 2013

Back in July 2005, I was given the honour of interviewing one of my own main early influences, Yngwie Malmsteen. This was my first professional job for Guitar Techniques magazine and along with my good friend Charlie Griffiths who was writing for Total Guitar magazine, we met up with Yngwie at a hotel in Kensington, London, and spent a couple of hours talking guitar, and filming some incredible ‘off-the-cuff’ improv over some backing tracks i’d prepared.

I’m pleased to present the un-edited video improvs for the neo-classically inspired Solo 1, along with the Jimi Hendrix inspired Solo 2 which demonstrates Yngwie’s hot rodded approach. Both solos are presented with the transcriptions in Guitar Pro and PDF format, as well as the same backings Yngwie himself played over! Follow this link to download the complete package for free…

Martin Goulding to release Modern Rock/Metal App for iPad

Tuesday, August 27th, 2013

After finishing a year’s worth of work for Guitar World magazine in December 2012, writing the monthly “Last Licks” column which i enjoyed (special thanks to Jeff Kitts and all at the magazine), i decided to take a break to concentrate on some other projects and was soon approached by Leafcutter Studios with a view to producing a modern-rock/metal course/app especially for the Apple iPad format.
Designed to develop timing, accuracy and tone, with speed being the natural by-product, this course will help you to streamline your technique and boost your vocabulary of ideas when writing and improvising. The app is going through it’s final stages and is now in prototype form with a release due by the Autumn 2013. More news soon!
